About Deimel Firestar Bass

The DEIMEL FIRESTAR BASS is born as a sibling bass of the very successful Deimel Firestar guitar. Mixed elements of several classic designs went into the concept of the Deimel Firestars. Being designed in the same manner as the Firestar guitar, the fusion of traditionally proven bass designs move onto a new step of comfort and elegance.

»The Deimel Firestar bass is equipped with the same extended sound varieties and comfortable playability as the Deimel Firestar guitar.«

The long-scale bass neck features a single piece of figured hard rock maple with a backwards angled headstock. It is fashioned after P-Bass dimensions and topped with a Pau Ferro fretboard. The bass has a rigid and simple constructed neck equipped with a single side adjusted trussrod. No additional string holders bother on the headstock.

The body is most of the times made out of one single piece of Yellow Poplar. Its retro-futuristic shape has been influenced by »classic« body contours which were merged into a new unique body shape.

The bass is very well equipped with not only up to 3 Lollar Thunderbird pickups, but also a piezo disc inside the body. Alternatively we offer the new »Deimel Thunderbuckers« in JM-Style with various split functions. The number of pickups is optional.

Pickup controls include a 3-way pickup selector and a slider switch to turn the middle pickup on or off. When the middle pickup is off, the 3-way toggle can control the bridge pickup, the neck pickup, or both. When the middle pickup is on, the 3-way toggle selects the neck and middle pickups, all three pickups, or just the middle and bridge pickups. The piezo also has an on/off slider switch. Finally, a third slider switch activates a low cut to get a surf or »James Bond« tone. Even with all those options, the bass electronics are still passive. No batteries required!

The high-quality hardware of the Deimel Firestar bass includes a string-through-body Hipshot bridge and Hipshot Ultralite tuners. Standard fitting include the following colors: Saturn Lavender, Moon Dust Blue, Venus Fern Green, and Desert Dawn.
Each bass is entirely handmade by Frank Deimel. Therefore any kind of customer wishes such as colors, woods, or modifications are available on request.

The process of handcraft as well as the wishes of our customers are very important to us. So in order to realize your individual model, we have created a sheet with specifications and prices, where every single pre-calculated option can be decided on and cross-marked. So, starting on a regular standard prize you can make your individual choices with numberless combinations. Any color and personal pickup configuration can be realized. You choose your neck profile, fret wire, neck radiuses, etc.. Whatever you like, we are looking forward to realize an individual Firestar guitar for you. Except for the body, pickguard, and headstock shape + logo placement, you are free to develop your own model.

[teaser title=”Left handed? No problem!” img=”4132″ align=”center”]Frank himself is a left handed luthier. So building bass guitars for our left handed customers is self evident and with no upcharge.
Here is a good example of a Left Hand Deimel Firestar Bass.[/teaser]
[teaser title=”Scale length” img=”1320″]The scale length is long scale, 34“, compound radius 9,5“ to 12“[/teaser]
[teaser title=”Optional semi-hollow body” img=”4072″]Although there is not much space inside the Firestar body, we managed to create some larger cavities which work as massive weight reduction and result also in a semi-hollow character. The cavities are routed from the top and the entire body gets closed with a 3mm wood veneer of the same wood like the body. We do not offer any F-holes, as the do not make sense acoustically with these limited cavities, and there is actually no real space to put them. The weight reduction and a certain semi-hollow flavor to the guitar’s tone is the main effect of this specification.[/teaser]

[teaser title=”Neck wood and finishes” img=”4067″ align=”center”]We usually prefer building our necks out of selected pieces of maple. 3 levels of figuration (normal, figured maple, or highly figured maple) are offered. Also we offer a matching headstock in the same color as the body varnish.[/teaser]
[teaser title=”Radius” img=”4293″ align=”center”]Our fretboards always feature a compound radius starting with 9.5“ from the nut until 12“ at the end of the fretboard. As it is only logical in fretboard theory, that the cone shape is the basis for a tapered neck in opposite to a cylindrical surface, it is the better fretboard. This allows for perfect action, comfortable chording in the first frets, and easy to bend strings in the upper section. This is our standard fretboard radius.[/teaser]
[teaser title=”Selecting woods” img=”4074″ align=”center”]Woods are selected by hand for each guitar and customer choices. Our favorite woods for bodies are american red alder, white korina, swamp ash, yellow poplar and mahogany.

Our preferred neck wood is maple if not requested differently by the customer.

For bass fretboards we prefer pao ferro or indian rosewood as standard. We ask for an upcharge on ziricote, madagaskar rosewood and grenadill.[/teaser]

[teaser title=”Light weight” img=”4429″ align=”center”]For us it is important that the weight matches the customers need. Since each guitar is built individually for the customer we can pick the perfect wood.[/teaser]
[teaser title=”One piece maple neck + fretboard” img=”4054″ align=”center”]We offer one piece maple necks, with an all in one neck and fretboard. It gives your guitar a bright look.[/teaser]
[teaser title=”Deimel Firestar Bass Classic Colors” img=”4123″]Excellent guitar design based on a great finish. As admirer of the 60ies design era, we do love the original cadillac colors a lot. On the base of those, we took them a step further into the new millenium and developed the following 4 Deimel colors as best fit for our Deimel Firestar Bass: Saturn Lavender, Venus Fern Green, Moon Dust Blue, and Desert Dawn. Certainly we also offer all other colors on request.[/teaser]
[teaser title=”Numberless possibilities for pickguards” img=”4045″]There are numberless combinations possible for the Deimel Firestar Bass pickguards. The most classic Deimel Firestar Bass comes with a 3-piece pickguard with golden anodized aluminum center piece and nickel parts on top and bottom. It is possible to swap the center for other anodized aluminum colors as e.g. magenta, turquoise, natural, black, etc.. Please contact us for the entire color palette. Another great looking combination is with a center of tortoise 4-ply, bakelite, or a parchment white plastic. All of those materials can also be ordered as an 1-piece pickguard. It is just up to you what you like most![/teaser]
